Biography

From the first time she heard the sound of the flute while attending a middle school pep rally as a fifth grader, Abigail Garner fell in love with the instrument within seconds and has not looked back since.

Currently a senior at the Baylor University School of Music, Abigail is engaged in a diverse range of performing ensembles including the Baylor Wind Ensemble, Baylor Symphony Orchestra, Baylor Early Music Ensemble, and as Second Flutist of the Waco Symphony Orchestra in the 2022-2023 season. In addition, Garner can be heard on Divine Mischief, a 2024 album release recorded by the Baylor Wind Ensemble, clarinetist Julian Bliss, and produced by Signum Records. She also enjoys playing in a variety of woodwind chamber music groups and has performed pieces such as Libby Larsen’s Trio in Four Movements for flute, viola, and harp, as well as Duos for Flute by Robert Muczynski throughout her time at Baylor.

Throughout her career, she has performed in masterclasses for Lisa Garner Santa, Shauna Thompson, Erin Murphy, Kim Scott, Marianne Gedigian, Alberto Almarza, Soo-Kyung Park, and Lorna McGhee. Recently, she was named a winner of the 2024 Semper Pro Musica competition at Baylor University and performed Lowell Liebermann’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 23 at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Shortly afterwards, she took part in a concert at Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth with the Baylor Symphony Orchestra and later gave a recital exploring solo flute and chamber works, including The Song of the Lark by Charles Rochester Young.

Abigail began her studies at Cedar Park, Texas with Ann Kjerulf Knien and is currently a student of Dr. Charlotte Daniel. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance, she plans to attend Southern Methodist University and earn a Master’s degree in Flute Performance. Outside of music, she likes to bake, draw, watch Disney movies and Broadway musicals, and spend time with her friends and loved ones.
